In 1987, he graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He served as a State Auditor for the state of Georgia and South Carolina before entering nursing home management. He followed this path until 2000 when he entered seminary. In 2002, he received a Master of Divinity Degree from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. In 2003, Osment was ordained and installed as a Minister of the Word and Sacrament in Peaks Presbytery located in Southwest Virginia.
